AMALGAMATION OF SELF

I cut human figures from cardboard and positioned them to show a progression in time. The piece conveys identity as composed of different moments in time, with each figure representing a different snapshot of the same person. Our perception of self hinges on the amalgamation of these moments into a streamlined whole. The piece was influenced by Hume’s view that our identities across time are distinct rather than connected, but our minds stitch them together to give us an uninterrupted sense of self.
