IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

A child is seated at a table ready to blow out a birthday cake candle. In their headspace, images of future selves dance through the dark. Then the child closes their eyes and blows out the candle, triggering a cascade of more birthdays and fluctuations of identity across time. Life occurs with remarkable speed against the backdrop of the universe’s vastness. This juxtaposition highlights the fleeting and miniscule nature of human life, yet it also compels us to appreciate the beauty of the universe. At the end of our lives, we return to the universe, like a droplet entering the water. And it all happens in the blink of an eye.

DREAM

Filmed with my phone and cardboard people, I depicted the expansiveness of imagination as we think about who we might be in the future, in ten, twenty, fifty years from now, the person we’ve become, the experiences we’ve had, the knowledge we’ve attained. And it gives a sense of mystery and also delight, pinpricks of excitement. The video follows a child’s imagination of their future selves, wild, fleeting thoughts dancing through the dark.
